Hello everyone - first time here. Have a 300d with efs18-55 + efs 55-200 and am pleased with them all. Want to do some macro and fancy getting the ef50mm f2.5 - anyone have this lens or a link to a good review? Also would there be an alternative worth considering?( Not necessarily canon) A link to a head to head or similar would be good too..........Thanks very much.

Welcome ...

There are several posts about Macro's here over the least two weeks (last two days even!) Search for Macro: takes a few seconds and you will plenty of info in front of you.

I have a Sigma 105mm DG Macro and it provides exceptional optical performance for a reasonable price when compared to the competition. You can reasonably safely buy on price as they all seem to be superb: go for one of the 100m-ish models from Sigma, Canon or Tamron ... if you can stretch to the 150mm Sigma then that looks really quite an exceptional option.

Itīs all up to you which Macro lens you are going to purchase. Yes there are quite a lot of threads concerning Macro lenses.

Hint: You might want to take a closer look at the Sigma 150mm Macro.
