I took a couple of practice shots last night...quick set up. I have canon 400d, used 18-55mm kit lens and onboard flash. A small LED light off to the right. Normal (low energy) bulb in light above. Camera on tripod. IR remote shutter release. Shot in RAW, then CS3 to process.

How are they? I wonderd about some of the white areas in the first - they appear to have dark edges. Is that because of PP?
Am I in the right ballpark, or are these just rubbish?

BTW: I know the EXIF data is there on Flickr, but how do I show it here (other than just cut n paste)? Or do I link to flickr, instead?

A little dark on my monitor, may have looked better laid on a music book.
Your right the MOP buttons are a little bleached out, but over all the photos look good.
More to the point, what Sax is it?
It looks very similar to my TJ Classic.
Do you get onto cafe saxophone?
Nice to see a fellow horn playing also into photography.

Ah, I'm not the player, my wife is :D

It's not an expensive sax, I don't think. £300 a couple of years ago. She plays quite well, but is really a clarinet player.

Thanks for the CC - I think I generally PREFER darker images - maybe that's just me...

I will try and get a few more on here, but I really want to spend more time setting up - but at least, according to you, I'm on the right lines! :D

I think these sort of shots would look good printed in one of those glossy music books... not sure if you have the same type in the UK, but many schools and publications go for this nearly square format with glossy pages. The highlights do look too bright to me, maybe try to recover them if you have the RAW file?

They are nice close-ups though, lots of detail.

I do have the RAW file, but to be honest, I don't really know what I'm doing in CS3 RAW. I just twiddle with the sliders!

Tell me, is there an UNDO button in CS RAW?? I have found quite a few links on using RAW on the web, but have yet to find enough time to read them!

Thanks for the C&C - glad you like them!:D

Unfortunately I don't know a way to recover info from highlights in CS RAW, I do it in lightroom, but if you find the "levels" - usually looks like a histogram, that's something to try. Sorry.
