Exceeding my bandwidth on Photobucket, had to delete.

I'm surprised there are so few comments on this one as it's one I really like and it says loads about a father/son relationship to me

WOW! I love this shot . . . the son's long step, the dad's shorter one. Very nice. I like the conversion as well. Good job.

I love these types of shots - this one should be on the front of a card for Fathers day - cause no words are needed - you can feel the mutual love and happiness by looking at this shot. It would be a seller for sure. So in simple words I love it!
Could I ask what conversion process and software you used to get that BW look - very nice and clean.

Nothing fancy, I'm afraid. I converted the RAW to TIFF using the Canon software, opened the TIFF in Elements, sharpened it, then brought the contrast up a couple notches, then converted it via grayscale. Once it was converted, I upped the contrast just a hair more until it looked right and that was it.

the conversion is awsome..... nice deep contrast. The only nit would be that the whites have gone just a tad too far and now the boys shirt and the waves have lost detail - particularly the boys shirt has a rather hot spot on it. But with that said, it's nothing serious at all and I would be very proud of it as is.

I love the feeling of the picture. Could it be cropped so the guys aren't quite so much in the center?

The only thing I might of done different, is to have taken the photo a little wider or at a lower angle so the reflection of them in the water is not cut off. But other wise it is a great photo.

I suppose it could, but I wouldn't like it that way.
Yecch. I tried it and I don't even want to leave that version up...it ruined the first one for me.

I love the photo. It speaks volumes!
May I ask, where it was taken?

I suggest you crop it into 2:3 portrait format, not 3:2 landscape. I know its a candid, but how unlucky the little tidal flow is there, right in front of them. If it was just sky, reflections, surf, beach, and subjects it would be that much more magical.
