Given that PowerShots guzzle alkalines like there's no tomorrow, you may wish to consider NiMH re-chargables. They last longer, charge the flash faster, and will save you money hand-over-fist. A four-pack means you'll always have a spare set to hand.

Digital cameras are notorious battery eaters - you have to power an lcd screen, autofocus, exposure circuitry and zoom mechanism.
Any decent hardware or photography shop should have a choice of blister packs containing four AA batteries and a charger. In the old days, we were confined to NiCad (Nickel Cadmium) rechargables; the modern version uses NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride). See this Wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel_metal_hydride_battery) article.
Sanyo Eneloop, Duracell and Energiser are all known makes. Go for the higher capacities - you can get basic cells rated at 800mA, but the upper end cells rated at around 2700mA will naturally give you a longer run before recharge becomes necessary.
Good luck!
