Hi there. I'm Canadian and have a camera. ;) In my mind that makes me a photographer. Self-taught, photograph anything that will stand or sit still - grandson, animals, plants/flowers, you name it. I'm in southwest BC, where are you?

Vancouverite here. Been photographing for a little over a year only. Really enjoy landscapes and have recently started doing some advertising work and hoping to move into portraits some day. Also trying to push my creative limits, I'm quite limited in that department but I love beautiful things which is why I finally took up photography. Lots to learn here, enjoy your time.

Wilburn Bay is great in the Summer but can be busy.
If you're up this way and want to do some shooting, drop me a PM! I do a lot of Aviation stuff but enjoy Landscapes. Starting up with Medium Format this Summer and will probably have my basic Darkroom setup by then. I want to shoot a Landscape Series of the Labrador Coast this summer. :)

So to the Canadians living in and around Toronto. Anyone see the Ansel Adams exhibit a fews years ago? My wife was there on business and a good photo buddy and I flew in for the weekend. The 3 of us went to see it.
We stood looking at a huge original Moonrise, Hernandez print. One of the people working strolled over with tissue paper to wipe the drool off my face and I asked if they would take a cheque. She said even the Sheiks from Saudi Arabia don't have cheques big enough for that one :).

And Gordon who runs the photprice.ca site is a great guy - if there is a piece of gear you want the price tracked - he has done it for me for 3 items

But you still have to factor in shipping and customs (which can be a lot).
there is no customs/duty for camera gear such as a body or lens purchased in the States and shipped to Canada. B&H and Amazon collect the taxes so you do not have to be billed separately from customs...

BH's shipping is very reasonable, too. $20 for a 2-6 day delivery on a $300 purchase.

The big factor in cross-border shipping is the brokerage fees, as I'm sure most of you already know.
I bought an item cosing $40 that was shipped by UPS. They charged me a $35 'brokerage fee'.
I use USPS/CP or it's 'no deal'.
