He got t-boned running code through an intersection. He was ok, but the car was sent packing as usual. It sat in that bay for a month waiting for all the red tape to be sorted through.

I didn't see it when I took this shot, but their tiller is just off camera to the right. The Battalion Chief is just to the left, with a unit from Vernon PD. On scene: HazMat Unit 151, Engine 12, Engine 13, USAR 161, Engine 11, and Truck 111 (off camera). It was a slow afternoon on Sunday. I think I saw someone else post a Class 1 FD. Vernon received it's Class 1 back in 1988 and has had it ever since.

I was talking to the Vernon PD officer and he didn't specify what type of gas. Not gasoline. So, just a "gas leak" inside of the building they were at. :)

Jill: Youre pretty close with the powerwasher comment! The red line is a water line.

rmdavis: No, not a foam line, but good guess.

It is actually a John Bean Gun. Give it a Google. A unique, and most times very painful way to put out a fire. Pretty much abandoned technique/equipment in modern firefighting. Has some cool history behind its transition to the fire service from farm use, I certainly do not miss using it and coming out of a house fire looking like a boiled lobster!

When you say "gas" leak" do you mean "gas leak" or "gasoline" leak?

Since natural gas is widely used in Southern California (Vernon is right next to LA), I'm guessing that's what it was. A fuel leak such as gasoline might not get that much of a response due to the lower explosive potential.

Gonna have several posts to add to this thread.

These are not great shots, but they are great subjects.

#1 is the actual fire engine from the 1970's TV series Emergency. Apparently the production company that made the show has the same parent company as the group that run the buildings in Yosemite Village, in the National Park. The contract called for a fire department, so they put the TV prop into service.

#2 is of course a airport crash response unit from the Dayton, OH airport. Taken from a long way away during the 2009 Dayton Airshow. (the blur is from the heat off the runway)

I have a shot somewhere of Station 127 in Carson, AKA Station 51, where they filmed the show. I took it on film years ago. I'll have to see if I can find it. Or maybe I will go back there and take some shots. I hear they still give tours if they are not busy.

No, It appears to be a fitting welcome home for Canadian Soldiers whom have lost their lives overseas. It's a typical scene alongside the Highway of Heroes when a member is repatriated

Wow, nice fleet!

Bell's, Sikorsky's, a Dauphin and an ole BK-117!

I used to fly in Pittsburgh. We had a pretty diverse fleet as well, mostly EC-135's. I did spend some time in a TwinStar (puke!) a BK-117 and a Dauphin.

I miss that job.

Not all the same corporation.

The Sikorsky's belong there.

The Dauphin was assisting cause we were out on flights and they stopped for fuel or something.

The BK brought in a pt from Saginaw.

The Bell crews were harvesting and they came to the hangar to avoid tying up the spots on the rooftop helipad.

There was an accident on the other side of the highway driving from St. Augustine, FL to North Carolina, apparently in Savannah, GA if I'm to trust the markings on the side of the truck (I couldn't get very good angles due to being confined to the back seat). Here's a shot of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance that flew in under the power lines and landed on the road outside my place of work. One of the young apprentices (18 years old) from my work was knocked off his push bike as he was turning in to the entrance by a Transit van, the van was doing about 60 mph at the point of impact; the Police estimated the speed from the length of the skid marks. As you can see by the presence of the cameraman the event was being filmed for one of those reality shows (that's what I was told anyway), to date I've not seen it on TV, probably because the poor lad died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital.

Do tell me you're joking.

OSHA, NTSB, FAA, their Ins carriers I'm sure would all be impressed if they truly flew under those wires to land there.
