I found this interesting webpage that someone made that shows G2 vs G3 images in real-life situations.
In all but one of the 8 comparisons, the sharpness and contrast of the G3 is noticeable better. I did notice that a couple images didnt use exactly the same exposure though.
The last shot shows the G3 image to be much sharper than the G2, and the G3 even used a smaller f-stop.

... I would be cautious with comparison like this. I can not read the text so it is hard to judge which settings he used etc.

Unless you can read japanese, it's pretty hard to figure out what settings are used, and software, etc. The G3 images look a little oversharpened to me, and are starting to exhibit some "halo" effect on the edges...check out the edges of the green leaves in the background for that nasty double line .
Honestly, both cameras seem to produce about the same quality, which is excellent!

Actually the exif settings ARE shown below each image in english.
They each use normal settings for contrast, saturation, sharpness.
I find the G2 to be too soft, almost out of focus. There are details in the G3 images that seem to be missing in the G2 images (like a fine mesh screen on a couple images that dont show up on the G2's).
The main page translation says there is no retouching:
"Temporarily, you took and compared. Please refer each EXIF data. In addition, because the shrine is dark, there is also a picture where the hand being off-center has come out.
The first two pictures retained in picture quality 80%, but it is the picture of original size. Please pay attention.
There is no picture after retouching, in picture quality 80% to retain, size is the 1600*1200.
When you see with the monitor inside, the G2 red a little is strong, as for the G3 is an impression whose blue is strong.
At the point, resolution there are no times when the resolution impression differs largely in both 4000000 pixels."
