I'm curious, why when printers are discussed here that HP is never mentioned - only Epson and Canon? Isn't HP the biggest seller of printers in the USA?

Hellashot, i used to wonder the same thing.especially since i owned the hp deskjet 712.
i thought it did good on printing photos even for a 4 yr old printer.that was until i picked up the canon pixma 3000.i was floored by the difference.it was such a huge difference in quality i now feel like reprinting every photo that i previously did on the hp.as for the epson i cant say. i never had any experience with one

I have the R300 and can say for me it has worked really well. It took some working with to get the color adjustments right, it seemed to be oversaturating flesh tones a bit too much for me. The ink seems to last longer than the canons and lexmarks I have had. The quality of prints are excellent for this printer, but I have only used epson paper with it. I did try Kodak once and was not impressed at all.....For the money it has been worth it ....

I use a Canon IP6000 and am very happy with the image quality and I image the 5000 would be similar assuming the have the same number of inks. But then Epson makes some fantastic printers as well, so I'm not sure there is a wrong choice here.

Try the water test. I have the HP 722C for general printing only because the thermal dye base ink just don't hold up. A little water and the print will run. I never own a Canon printer but it should be about the same.
