There are actually three Red Mountains along Highway 550 near Ouray, CO. Two of them are shown below, followed by Red Mountain Creek.

Note the very red color of the rocks from Red Mountain.

The first picture is breath-taking, Stan. Beautiful stream picture - does it make you think "I'm not going to drink that water!"

Thanks for your comments. There is so much beauty in Colorado it makes it easy to take a pretty picture. I'm getting close to processing some from the top of Red Mountain, which I think should be spectacular.

I have a new found respect for all you landscape photographers who can do it and have it not turn out like a snap shot. Half of Europe must be missing as they all seemed to be in Utah with me last week - all taking many pictures in the exact same place I was - and I was left struggling to find ways to do something unique. You've done a good job here...

The stream shot is great. In fact my son was shoulder surfing and spotted that shot and did a double take and a "Oh man that's beautiful". Colors are just popping. Looking forward to more.

Your feedback is appreciated. The two mountain shots were both using the 17-55 mm kit lens and ISO 100, with polarizer. The large mountain was at f10, 1/50 second, 55mm. The reflection was f4, 1/160 second, 17 mm. The stream was shot with the 10-22 mm lens (my favorite) at 10 mm, ISO 100, F22, 1/2 second, with polarizer. It was in shade, so no ND filters were needed.

Stan,
Your photos keep getting better. This set seems sharper than your last few. I really like the compo on #2. What time of day did you take that pic? Must have been early because there isn't a ripple on the lake. I also like #3 a lot. It's hard to get a flowing water pic and make a pleasing composition. I think you pulled it off.
Guess what? I'm going to be in colorado next week. I am going camping in Rocky Mountain National Park. I'll be there from Wednesday to saturday. If the weather is nice I'm going to hike to the top of longs peak. I've been wanting to do that for years.

Thanks, Dave. Can't explain better sharpness, same old gear and geezer doing it. These were actually late in the day, low light making for strong images and little wind. I was disappointed at the time I took the reflection, as I wanted to get more mountain visible. Just couldn't find a place to do that. Now I'm happy enough with the shot as is.
Glad to hear you'll be out here next week. We will be in Idaho Springs most of the week, moving to Estes Park on or before 7/18. If we get up there before you leave, I'll buy lunch. Longs Peak will be a great hike, but too much for my old legs. I'll settle for hiking to the near lakes. Enjoy your time there.

Too bad I have to be back to work on the 16th. If I am having a lot of fum I might call off sick and stick around for a few more days. It's great being unionized labor.
