I just got a Canon 50-200L which was the predecessor to the newer 70-200L's. Its an interesting model as its push pull which I'd never used before, its black, slightly shorter then the new one and A LOT slower to focus. Like the new one its quite sharp and the push pull zoom is a love/hate thing in our house as I really like it while my wife hates it:) I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not but now I'd have no problem buying the 100-400L (which is what I'm saving up for now to replace this down the road). I got a pretty good deal on this and it seems sharper then the 70-200L I tried a few weeks ago. I'll post some samples later if you're curious what its like but so far I'm pretty happy with it and would recomend it if your budgets are tight but want something sharper then the 75-300 and 100-300s etc.

There's some great old glass out there.. all the pre-IS big white primes are super lenses.. and I used to have the 28-70mm f/2.8L (I know.. not very old) but it does everything the newer model does.. just not as wide.

I just sold a similar model -the old 100-300/5.6L
I must agree-they are a step up in sharpness than the consumer zooms (especially at the long end!!)

whoa, Ron - new avatar! btw - too bad about game #3, better luck next year...
i, too, still have some old L glass. the only problem is that when they're discontinued, they may not have parts to repair them. my 80-200 2.8L was almost stuck in manual as the af/mf switch died. found a replacement after a few weeks.

I have and use happily a 35-350L.
