This link is attached to a photo of my niece. I am new to photography and this is one of the pictures that I really like that I've taken. What would make this a better photo? I have done no post processing... this is what I got out of the camera.

I would have used some Fill-flash to eliminate some of the harsh lighting on the girl's face.

Fill flash or a reflector to lighten up the eyes. Get the camera down to her eye-level; when I take kids' portraits I wear knee pads because I'm rolling around on the ground so much. Possibly use a less centered composition?

Nice Pic.

For post processing you could remove some shadows, and prehaps perform a little tighter crop.

Here is my little effort on this.

I performed Auto Levels, Shadow Highlights 50/50/30, crop, and Mike's Framing Script.
