Hi,

I'm in a severe quandry - however it's a nice one to be in I suppose - I have narrowed down my search for a new digital camera to either the G2 or G3.
I have heard the arguements for and against each camera from people who use either one ot the other but I need to hear from people who have experience of using both the G2 and G3 to give me a balanced opinion.

My question is which camera actually gives the best all round images and which one is the least exasperating to use?
The G3 is more expensive however I don't mind paying the extra if the images are of a higher quality.

I'll also post this on the G2 forum and see what sorts of replies I get there. Should be interesting !

Thanks and I look forwards to your replies.

If I were you go for the G3. Faster processor than the G2. The G3's DIGIC Imaging Processor improves image quality, enhances autofocus accuracy and increases processing speed for sharper images that can be shot faster. It also has other additional features that the G2 don't have.

G3guro.

I was in the same quandry, pigpicker. I looked at many G2 then G3 shots at Photosig, read about them at the review sites, found this forum, read a few posts here and at the G2 threads.

The prices are going down for the G3. I'd get that one, glad I did. No, I don't have or have used the G2. I was looking at the G2-a bit less expensive, but I thought go for the extra telephoto reach, as I sometimes like to shoot nature, or isolate some landscape, and you need all the reach you can get.

The 2 custom settings can be useful, everything G3guro mentioned also, and oh, did I mention-the price is going down? I got mine at B&H for $699, ordered it Feb 16th-I think it is at $609 now. That little newsbrief that was posted about a week ago was like putting out a cigarette in my palm after I paid what I did (not really-just kidding) but I am glad I got the G3. And you will be too. Canon's 1.8 G3 teleconverter gives you 252mm vs 208 with say a Tiffen or Kenko 2x on the G2.

It is a fine little camera, you will not regret it for 1 minute, I've read to many "I love this camera" reviews...

Best regards,

Kerry

I've owned both the G2 and G3 and I think the G3 has some improvements which make it a clear choice.

I probably wouldn't upgrade from a G2 to a G3, but if I was buying from scratch it'd be the G3.

I was in the same boat up until Monday. Spend the extra "bone" and get the G3. G2 is a great camera, it's just older technology.
