I struggle with B/W but I think maybe try more contrast. :)

I like the image, but am not a big fan of b/w in general. How is the color version?

I like the shot, but it's coming off on the gray scale. I too have my struggles with black and white conversion, they say you should have a deffinition between blackest black and the whitest whites. So as not to come off as gray. I found this video on youtube to be very helpful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f6auNupB7o&feature=PlayList&p=E03B1AE71FD9598B&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=85 and I mostly use paintshop pro x2.

Good luck to you,

Would agree with the above but if you push the contrast too far you are going to end up with that tree in the background being too obvious.

If this was RAW, try changing to a yellow/orange/red filter in conversion and see if they give a better effect.

Here is an edit of the B&W using levels. One thing I am learning and seems to be working ok is to edit the file in color and then adjust in B&W. Using the levels and adjusting each individual color (RGB) and then converting to B&W.

I think the edit looks a lot better! Nice job. B&W is tough at first because people often tend to just convert to grayscale and call it done. You really need to push the contrast/levels a bit to get nice tones. Another thing you might want to try is download some actions for PS or Presets for LR...there are tons out there and they'll be a great starting point for your conversion.

That is a big improvement in the right direction, I think.

The new edit gave it a lot more definition. Nice shot.
