Have uploaded 8 snaps from my Tamron 28-75. All images are 100% crops with no post-processing.
The snaps are at 2.8, 4.0, 5.6 and 8.0 apertures both at 28mm and 75mm on my Drebel. All shots are in natural light and with tripod.

The 2.8 obviously looks a lot less sharper. But 4+ images are very sharp.
Any comments are welcome...

Looks like you got a good copy, like mine :)

I didn't use mine at f2.8 much but was always happy with its performance stopped down. I only sold it because I didn't use it enough to justify owning it. A fine lens at a fine price. Looks like you have no problems.

I use mine at F2.8 all the time, it works great.

Definitely usable at 2.8 - have many snaps at 2.8. But this is the first real test I did and yes, 2.8 as expected is softer. But thats a 100% crop - I've never seen my pics at that level of detail since I got my Drebel!!

Just shallow DOF at f2.8. Good copy you have. I like mine too. :)

Mine is very usuable as well, I take lots of shots at F2.8 without any problems other than the extremely shallow DOF.

What do you mean by extremely shallow dof? It's shallower than most other lenses at 2.8?

no, its the same as other F2.8 lens, just that 2.8 is a very big aperture which must be handled with care.

Here is an example shot taken with mine at F2.8, first picture is right out of the camera, only resized for the web, second picture is after I applied the typical amount of Un-sharp mask to it.
Looks pretty sharp to me.
1. Straight out of camera

2. Un-sharp mask applied (300, 0.3, 0)
