I think you should have raised the ISO to 400-800 to get the shutter speed to 1/400th or very close to eliminate the camera shake in this image.
General rule is keep the Shutter speed the same as the FL of the lens.

Sorry--newbie here--don't know what that is! If you mean mirror lock up---no.
I used my Canon EF100-400.
I did not use a tripod---hand held instead (I know-should have used a tripod!)--which explains the shake!

For him on his XTI it would be 1.6x of it. :D

1.6 croppers dont change focal length they change field of view so that rule is not widely followed.

I shoot a pair of crops, whatever the "rule", 1/60th is way too slow for that focal length. I routinely shoot @ 200mm, Tv of 125th with my 70-200 IS. That's as low as I can muster, and that's dicey in any case. Not only that, but these images seem over exposed, there's no detail in the wing feathers.

Agree about this being overexposed.
