I want to paint my office, or at least the wall behind the monitor, to a nice balanced, neutral color.
The room is currently BRIGHT ORANGE (I blame my wife for this), and I feel it affects my eyes when working on photos.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Why not white or black or grey or magnolia, only kidding best thing to do is get a few tester pots and paint the area behind your monitor and see which you prefer.
loud colours are not easy on the eye so your right to go for neutral colours.

Take a grey card to the paint store and have them match it. Oh, and don't forget a ton of primer to cover up that orange. :p

Hey Mike - that is a great idea! Do you think the type of paint will make much difference? Flat vs. Latex, etc...

I find flat or matt paint is sweet for hanging matted photos.

I think you mean "flat" or "gloss" (includes semi-gloss). Flat paint will have less reflectivity when it comes to light sources...probably what you want.

Matt light grey would be best for a studio but it does make for very boring walls!
Perfect opportunity to have a little gallery space!

Just a light grey satin should be nice. That's what I am using right now and it works well.
OPtion 2 is just to turn out the lights. :)
