Sorry didn't know where to post this
Ok so this is whats going on. My camera works fine in auto mode. When i put it in P or M, no matter what settings i have it on, it takes a while to take a shot as if it was set for a really long exposure but it doesn't capture anything at all.
I press the button, after a few seconds camera goes back to my screen. Maybe 10 seconds later the camera completes the shot and the screen goes black. I go to preview but there is no picture.
I went to my menu and cleared all my custom settings but I still get the same problem. My camera is a canon XSI with the standard lens.
Any help is appreciated. Camera has never been dropped and i take good care of it. Had it for a bit over a year

you probably just have the shutter speed set very slow. set it to like 1/250 and see what happens

I had it at every possible setting. Even at 1/1000 in daylight, same problem

Are you sure you're in single-shot mode and not timer mode?

Have you tried calling Canon? If there's indeed something wrong with the camera, I don't think any of us will be able to help you.

Most DSLRs only have a one year warranty, so probably not...sorry!

Mirror lock up?
On my 30D, when mirror lockup (custom function 12) is activated I then push the shutter once to lock the mirror, then again to take the shot. If I press only once the mirror will lock up and release in 30 seconds. No picture is taken.
When the mirror is up the viewfinder goes black. Does yours?
MLU doesn't work in auto modes.

+1 for MLU, drove my friend crazy while she was on vacation.

I did clear the settings but im surprised it actually didn't clear all ofem coz mirror lockup was enabled. I don't think the camera would come like that out of factory??
