Hi,
I just tried the program called Noiseware Community Edition (free download) and I found that when I view a preprocessed (nothing done yet) image with that program, the image shows up with a tad more noise than with another program. I wonder if anybody else noticed this or if this is just my imagination :o It looks like they increase the noise so that you think the program is more efficient or something like that.

Sorry I can't answer your question. But just curious, have you tried any of the other noise reducing programs w/ any luck? When you say "another program" which are you referring to? I'd be interested to see what others have to say about this. I'm currently shopping for a good noise reducing software, and based on what I've read, I'm narrowing it down to NoiseNinja, Noiseware and Neat Image. Unfortunatly, I haven't been able to try out Noiseware because they don't make a trial version for Mac.

the only other program I have used for noise is RawShooter but that one works only with raw images. To experience the problem all I have to do is to open the image with for example The Gimp. When I open the image with another program I see a little difference. I cannot really complain because Noiseware is 100% free. Anyway, RawShooter Essentials is also 100% free and works on the noise *before* converting the image to jpeg and is faster to view the results too. RawShooter is the winner for me.

Others have commented on how Noiseware makes the noise worse when you are comparing the before and after. I haven't noticed myself, but then I was just using RSE to convert some images and playing with the NR in it and was having a really hard time telling the difference of before and after. At least Noiseware makes the difference really obvious. I think it helps me from turning the NR up too high. I often turn down the settings in Noiseware because of the large different in before and after shots.

I Use the noiseware communtiy version. Here is my take on the situation. Regardless to the size I have the image cropped, once processed in NW it is a much larger size and must be recropped. I think that it looks like it increases the noise as it increases the size and reduces the ppi ratio. Of course that may be a far-fetched explanation, but it is what I always figure happens.

I'm confused. You have to crop it after saving the file from noiseware? Where does it add pixels to the image? And what does ppi have to do with anything?
