I would start a bit higher on the SS and work your way down as your technique improves.

#1: If you wanted the driver sharp, then you did good. Usually, I try to get at least the front of the car sharp.
#2 & 3: Blurs are tough to get "right". These would go in my delete folder. ;)

if this is your first time at panning then I would suggest using a much higher shutter speed until you get used to tracking the subject and get a good technique sorted :)

For motorsport I use a shutter speed of around 160.

Practice makes perfect :)

keep trying.. more practice is needed..

Try better light to shoot faster speeds..

I was shooting buses and cars at an intersection out of bordeom. Higher speeds would have defeated the purpose in this case.
Thanks for commenting. I will try again.

Thanks guys
I'll keep trying.
I actually like the effect I got on the bus and the guy on the bike I guess was busy staying alive at an intersection. Pity he didn't keep his eyes forward.

Also, make sure to set your AF ro AI Servo. As you pan (especially around a corner) the subject will change distance from your locked focus point.

Always set to AI

Keep panning when you press the button as well.
