Thanks to another post on how to attach the Canon E1 hand strap, I came up with a virtually free home-made strap and wanted to share it with other users.

The strap used came with the Canon EF 1.4x teleconverter. It was meant to be a strap for the hard case. Since I've no use for the hard case, I converted the strap to be a hand strap.

The strap came with 2 B-clips. Both are used in making the hand strap.

Next project is to add a pad made from Dry-Flow mesh & closed cell foam. But so far, I haven't seen a need for it yet.

BTW, pictures were taken with my venerable Powershot G1 @ ISO200. In contrast to the 20D pictures, the noise level is quit high. We've sure came a long way in digital photography.

Nice idea. The handstrap really makes a difference. But this one effectively costs around $300 as it comes with the TCon, unless you know how to get one for free.

LOL! I chuked the TC because I only needed the strap. :)

Appearantly, these straps were quite common on older SLR cameras. Used camera stores should have them very cheap.

I didn't get a strap with my EF 1.4x II. It came with a soft case, similar to those provided with a couple L zoom lenses I bought a couple months ago. Oh well...

Same, no strap with my 1.4x II. Just soft case.
Neat idea though.

Funny about the noise. The ISO200 looks about the same as ISO3200 on the 20D.
In fact, ISO3200 on the 20D might look slightly better :)

If your are really cost conscious the go to Walmart and look at dog collars. The small ones made out of 3/8" to 1/2" Nylon webbing are cheap and have all the parts you would need to make a low budget strap.

Since were talking about Hand Straps.......those 20D/10D users who want to use a hand strap on your camera without buying the optional battery grip should check out Camdapters.

In case you're wondering why your TC didn't come with a strap, I have an older version of TC that came in a hard case. I believe newer TCs come with soft case and no strap.

I originally bought the Hakuba handstrap but didn't like it on my then 10D. I then bought the Canon, used the plastic bottom mount from the Hakuba and it worked perfectly.

Now that I have the 1 series, I bought another canon strap but have yet to take it out of the package. I'm using the original one which is sort of broken in. I bought the new one because I didn't want to put an "old" one on my new camera.

As far as putting it on the camera, my wife had no problem doing it for me.
