Well I thought I'd share my long exposure experiences with everyone. This was my first time, but using the knowledge of those many folks who have done this already, it went off without too many problems. These were shot at ISO 400 and the lens stopped down to 22 and shutter set in bulb mode. I used a Canon Rebel T2 with the kit lens which was an EF 28-90mm f4-5.6 III. The first of my issues. Autofocus and fireworks do not go together. The autofocus wouldn't lock in until the burst started to happen and there was something to lock onto. Once that happened, it wasn't too bad. I was still actually able to get a good exposure, I just missed the rocket trail and the very beginning of the burst. I of course remembered to turn off autofocus and set the focus manually to get away from that problem. Other issues were, not blocking the eyepiece... for the first few I noticed the cover fell off so I only got a few exposures that showed the reflection of the film edges exposed on the print...lol. actually it looks kinda neat. Let me know what you all think. Not too bad for a first timer I think. Yeah I used a remote switch for the shutter release and a cheap no name but sturdy tripod. I'm saving money for the D20 and a 28-135mm IS lens. ;)

I took about 100+ shots and I'd say about 65% are very good. Thing is, my camera is a 35mm not digital, so I'm in process of scanning the pics in. When I get them all scanned in, I'll post them to my webpage. I'm setting that up too. I have a multi-function scanner so I can scan prints or negatives. But I'll be getting my 20D as soon as I get my bonus check.

Those are great! They look like fiber optics. The first one is definitely my favorite.

Here is another really good shot. I think the cropping on this one is spot on too.

I see you saved the best for last! Very nicely done. It takes talent to capture that on film without the advantage of a preview screen and the delete button. And you'll like your 20D when you get it. I got one in March and love it!

Yes shooting with film does present it's challenges. I've already shot a few pictures with the 20D and I loved how it felt and everything. I can't wait. I've seen some of your pictures and the fact that you complimented mine has me very humbled. You have some fantastic images. I particularly liked the falling down barn. I think pictures like that really are supposed to tell a story, and yours did that quite nicely.

Thank you very much... It really depended on how many bursts I wanted. For some of the shots showing multiple rocket bursts, I held the shutter open for as long as it took to watch them. So basically, I held the shutter open from the point of launch, to the point where the last burst I wanted disipated. I only did this when the rockets were launched close together, otherwise you would need a piece of black cardboard to cover the lens between them. If I only wanted one burst... I just held it from the initial launch, to the end of that burst. some were 3-4 seconds, others were a little longer.

I finally posted my album to my webspace with my ISP... Check it out here:
