These are some shots of the 3 foot narrow gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
It was built in 1875 with the purpose of transporting iron-ore from workings above Boot village to Ravenglass and the mainline railway.
It is now used as a tourist attraction with 120,000 visitors per year.

Cool toys!

I also really like your frames...
Would you be willing to tell me how to make them?

Nice shots, but are you sure it is 3' gauge? It looks like the railheads are MUCH closer than 3'

(BTW, I am a railroad worker :) I work on standard gauge steam locomotives :D )

I wondered about that, too, but checked their website, and it's 15 inches.

It sure looks like a fun place to go see some really large model trains, though, doesn't it?

Many industrial 'railroads' were strictly home-grown, very small, and were intended exclusively for in-plant use without any thoughts of interchanging with regular railroad equipment. I've seen them as small as 12" gauge, where the 'locomotives' were actually people pushing rail carts around. Someone was very clever to have gotten the idea to turn this industrial line into a tourist railrod.

The equipment on La'al Ratty looks to be just about 1/4 actual size, and seems to be beautifully made and maintained. I'd love to see it in person someday.

Hi Cameron, These little trains are pretty neat. I had no idea that they actually used these miniatures for work.
Thanks for sharing these nice photos. :D
