I had a buddy come up with some ideas for logo's for my company, I know the camera is a bit overused, but I think I like this look. Any ideas or suggestions for tweaking?

I like it, even with the overused camera. My only question... isn't the name kind of redundant? While there would be a risk of some people not "getting it", I'd consider just "Photosmith", or some variation.

I agree. Photography makes the logo a bit redundant. Photosmith speaks for itself and sounds much more professional than Photosmith photography.

The logo is "ok", but I would work on the camera a little more. It looks like a child drew it.

how about imaging instead of photography

IMO if the camera looked better, the logo would look better.

Yeah, it was just a rough draft a buddy of mine made for me, so I can get an idea for the logo, I like Photosmith Imaging... my last name is Smith so I wanted to incorperate that into the company name

senior graphic designer chiming in here... the guys are right, "photo" is being used twice.

as for the camera outline, it's redundant as well.

imagine, say, Dave's Pizza Joint, and the word pizza is placed within a stylized pizza... same thing.. redundant. It's not effective nor is the outline interesting enough, visually, thus does not enhance the overall logo in any way. look at Adorama's logo. It's much more subtle and clever and ads just a hint of graphic treatment as to distinguish a sense of unique brand.

Completely off topic, but geez - do you really have almost 100,000,000 posts?!

I would lose the camera outline and just go with the text.

I'm the contrarian. I see nothing wrong with the camera outline, or a stylized pizza for a pizza place. It's who you are. It's what you do. I'm all for keeping it subtle and classy, as I think the OP's is, but I fail to see the logic in essentially hiding from what you do.

Then I suppose FedEx is the fool for not wrapping its logotype in a delivery truck outline rather than it's subtle -> symbol. I suppose the world's fleet of graphic designers have been using backwards logic all these decades...

oh, and ken, I still love your nature photography! (don't get me wrong!)

I did not say, nor did I imply, that it was either mandatory or necessary. I merely said I fail to see the faux pas if the person or company chooses to do so as an option.

Thank you. :-D

OK, I'm eye to eye with you now. I blame the loud kid-lets running around me and not being to fully ingest your meaning. You're right, there's not err' in doing so. The only major problem you create in doing so is weakening your brand.. and who really wants to do that... IF your interest is better business.

1)simplify the outline of the camera on top, perhaps a bit too realistic? took me a while to recognize it's a camera because i thought the top were mountains or hills... maybe he's from the NW...
2) center the outline of the camera and the position of the O (while using a diff font for "O" so it is circular, not oval) and the "O" becomes the lens portion of the camera... even if it is not vertically aligned to the rest of the text
3)remove the "photography"

just some quick thoughts...

Thats actually a GREAT idea! I am definatly going to pass that along to my designer, once he works out the kinks with the camera outline, i'll post the new design.

Thanks for all the input! It really does help!

And 100,000,000 posts... holy...crap!
