I just upgraded from a 10d to a 20d this week. I went to take pictures of hot air balloons against a cloudless blue sky. When I came home and looked at the images, there were about 10 dust particles visible in the photos. Out came the rocket blower and the next days images were fine. The camera was purchased brand new from a reputable online dealer and had not been opened. Has anyone else had this happen, a dirty sensor right from the factory? Just Curious - Thanks.

That is not an uncommon problem.

Had the same thing happen. At first I thought it was on the new 75-300 lens I bought. Turned out to be on the sensor.

My first 20D has dirt so bad it couldn't be cleaned off, my 2nd had some dirt but it came off fine with the copperhill method.

Canon is actually quite generous. They know that your sensor is going to aquire some dust sooner or later and that it might take a while so they ship some with the camera to get you started. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon12.gif

Goobers add interest to a clear cloudless sky.
My 350D arrived with them pre-installed and I didn't have to pay any extra...thanks Canon :D
Are they covered by the warranty if they dissapear?

Mine didn't come with any on the sensor but Canon was nice enough to include a few specs on the mirror that won't come off with an air duster. Any ideas on cleaning it? I'm very hesitant to expose anything inside the camera to any kind of moisture.

How did you take pictures with an un-opened camera?

Research very thoroughly before trying to clean it yourself!
The mirror is much more delicate than the sensor (actually, it's the sensor cover that you clean) and can easily be scratched.
