Looking for an SLR Camera

I am wanting to buy an SLR digital camera and am wondering if there is anything like that available. I am knew to photography, I love to take pictures and am now ready to buy a professionals camera I just do not know what would be the best for me to buy. What will you generally be shooting? What is your budget? Will you need wide angle, telephoto, or prime lenses?
