Maybe I'm just being paranoid or .... but...
I've had my 70-200 EFIS 2.8 L lens for 6 weeks or so and have been using it primarily for softball shots. Yesterday I noticed that it was making a noticeable "vibration" which disappears if I turn the IS off.
I don't remember this being noticeable last week or the week before etc. Maybe I was just being unobservant and this is normal, or maybe there is a problem? The pics I took over this weekend seem to be fine, so maybe I'm just being paranoid that something is going wrong or I've somehow gotten dust into it or ??
Any thoughts, comments? Am I just being silly or is this something I should have checked out?

Probably just being too observant than before.

AFAIK IS system works by raising one lens element on air with magnets which are controlled by gyroscope. So there are nothing there to vibrate, except when you are focusing (lens groups move). I could be wrong of course, Canon engineers feel free to correct me :) Does focus stay put when you feel the vibration? Maybe it's very slight AF hunting.

The sound and vibration you are hearing is simply the IS doing it's magic. Plain and Simple. Try it with any IS lens ;)

Thanks guys, as I said, maybe I'm just being paranoid with my new baby. But I don't remember it being this obvious in previous weeks. My 17-85 doesn't seem to make the same vibration.
As I said, the pics are good so maybe nothing to worry about..

The 17-85 is so much smaller/lighter and of a shorter focal length... the IS really doesn't need to do much on that lens. I have the same two lens. Plus I have the 75-300 IS lens as well. The two larger ones make more noticeable noise and vibration than does the 17-85.

IS has moving parts, a small amount of movement/vibration isn't something to worry about if it keeps working.

Thanks. That definitely eases my mind. I'm probably just being overly paranoid about something being wrong. I'll keep shooting and see what happens. I got some great softball shots this weekend from the state tournament I'll post a few in the next day or so.
