last night my grrl and i decided that since there were no hotel rooms in AC (at 7.30pm) we would go to a swanky hotel in times square... ended up staying at the W Hotel... highly reccomend it to anyone - and the blue fin resturant which is located on the ground floor of the hotel.

we didnt get into the city untill just after 11, till we got to the room, changed and freshened up, went to the blue fin it was 11.45pm... ate dinner and got at of there around 1.30am. went back up to the room, relaxed for a bit then grabbed the camera to go stroll around nyc. i was amazed at how many photogs are out there w/ their 10 and 20d's w/ photo printers on the streets in times square taking photos for the tourists... guess i didnt relize it was a big thing since i end up in the city several times a year.

just wandered around times square for a while and was snapping things, this is one of the photos. it has been rotated clock wise already to align the cement cracks at the bottom and cropped about 1/3rd into it. some serious raw and levels adjustments were needed to bring life back into the thing and then a b&w conversion. i shot this at 800iso and am not trying to hide this, as it is clearly at night, so i am ok w/ the digital noise in it. i did try smoothing it out using the fm isox pro plugin but wasnt happy.

I may try to crop in even tighter and eliminate the bike and a lot of the dead space at the bottom, im not sure yet though.

thoughts?

well i like the bike kind of..this photo is sort of a glimpse into ny...but the digital noise is not noticable at this level. Show your final product after your done toying with the image

Mike, You really making me homesick! Man I used to love roaming around the city at night. Nice shot.
