John's '68 Charger GTS has a Viper engine. I hope to get some shots in better light in the next few weeks.

I do not think you know what sleeper means..
None the less it is an awesome ride!

Might well be the case :D
For me a sleeper is a car that has a lot more power than its outward appearance betrays. So if you want to overtake some ordinary-looking Mitsubishi with your fancy sports car to find out it is actually an Evo model with NOS ... you are in for some surprise.
So ... is my assumption somehow correct or is a 'sleeper' something altogether different?
Now to that car ... I would not really think about racing a Charger at a trafficlight, if I ever saw one in this neck of the woods ...
Viper engine or 'normal' 440 or Hemi won't make much of a difference ...
Best regards,
Andy

If I remember correctly, this Charger weighs less than a Viper!
Viper engine or 'normal' 440 or Hemi won't make much of a difference ... To me, the Hemi version would put it into the "Q-ship" class! In WWII, they filled ratty old freighters with ping pong balls to make them unsinkable. A sub wouldn't want to waste a torpedo on them so it would surface to use the deck gun. Then the sides of the freighter would flop down to reveal that it had deck guns of it's own. One surprised sub blown out of the water!

Now THAT'S what I would call a "SLEEPER"!

It does look like a sleeper. It may be a charger, but it doesn't look souped up. The owner presents it with a very clean and show car finish.
Having a viper motor in that car sure will wake it up.
Not to talk trash about it's ol' motor, as it was great for it's time.
If I were to pull up to it and hear it running, it would sound powerful but smooth. There wouldn't be a huge lift cam or perhaps the whine of a supercharger. But if it did run against me, and kick the crap out of me, I would have not guessed there was a 500hp viper engine in there.
For this, I called it a sleeper. Around here there are many muscle cars that look exceptional, but all run at best in the high 12's to low 13's.
It's the one's that look like crap, have on skinny's up front, shake & rumble, that are the fast ones, usually. This care is an exceptional vehicle.
I saw an LS6 in a 69' camaro, it was sweet.

Only has a 383 though :D:D "Only"! A stock 383 should be "only" enough for about 140mph. ;)
It looks in great condition. How about some more pics?

O-kay I see where your comong from..
But to me the very car model would exclude it from being a sleeper... Few cars made in the history of automobiles are as recognizeable as an "irresponsibly fast" ride as the Charger is.
To me a sleeper is a beat to crap dirt brown 1972 Ford Maverick 4 door with a 351 cleveland under the hood.. (and yes.. we surpirsed a lot of people with that!)
Chrysler was the "king" of sleepers.. as on top of the actual sport models.. somone could go into the dealer and order up a "Newport" , "Poloara" or "Belvedere" grocery getter sedan with a 440 under the hood and tricked out suspesion package if desired....
These were the true "sleepers" ;)

Haha ...
allow me to introduce you to the European version of a sleeper car.
My father often told me that (around 1965) he had a Fiat 500 that looked completely original, but had an 'Abarth' engine and suspension.
The car looked like this
http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/contributions/990720//std_66_fiat-abarth_695ss_assetto_corsa.jpg
and the standard version featured a 500 cc engine(yes, that's 30 cubic inches  )with about 22 hp.
The 'Abarth' version featured a tuned engine with up to 1000 cc and was capable of doing up to 120 mph ...
Definitely not what you would be expecting if you were sitting in a Porsche or Mercedes 280 (that was capable of about the same top speed) on the Autobahn and this car was getting bigger and bigger in your rear mirror
That is, if the driver really dared to ride *such a car* at that speeds ... quite an adventure.
This is how these cars are driven by enthusiasts in full racing trim:
http://www.abarth-germany.de/images/start21.jpg
Here you can see its discerning feature: for thermal reasons, the engine hood had to be fixed in the open position if you wanted to ride it at high speeds for more than a few minutes ... also acted as spoiler.

PS: Sorry for hijacking the thread

HAha ...
Marie, that London Cab is about twice the size of the car I posted
The Fiat 500 is about 3,2 meters long (half a meter longer than a 'Smart' car) and weighs 535 kg (200 less than the 'Smart').
Just the thought of going 120 mph in such a car
