Ok, just finished mucking around with my website after being told by a number of people that I should make the effort to try and sell some of my photos.

I am using Photobox as the online printer but using my own website as the main gallery. All the galleries on my website match those on Photopbox so hopefully it makes it easy enough to find the images you want.

I guess this is where I ask for feedback... be honest, hopefully not brutal but I do want to try and make a reasonable stab at this so any advice is welcome.

Thanks

Duncan

I like your website design, especially your photos (top of the world). Keep up!

I like it a lot. Did you program it yourself?

Thank you very much for the feedback, it really helps as I have only made simple webpages previously and want to try and make it work.

Never sold any photos before and never tried and while it would be great to do this as a career I am a realist and know this is unlikely to happen but if I sell a few, great. The main thing is I enjoy getting out there and taking them.

Found a couple of issues with the galleries not centering when using explorer but I have sorted this out and the blue border around one of the gallery buttons. Why all browsers can't work the same way I will never know.

Yeah, I am an analyst by trade and handy with a few different programming languages so web pages represent and interesting challenge :-).

I got it all done and bottled the option of arranging the printing of the images myself. I had the buy option on the image viewer (via Paypal) which looked great. For now though, I didn't want to come home from work to arrange for prints to be printed and delivered to customers on time. Photobox had a good reputation and I was able to integrate their Pro Galleries into my website so I didn't have to use stock pages.

I guess my main concern was customer service. Photobox will deal with that and allow me to get on with my day job that gives me the money to do the things I love, climbing and photography and the customers receive their prints on time.

Very nicely done. I found it easy to navigate which is important. A couple of ideas
1. Instead of the arrow buttons could you put a flower picture or a wildlife picture on the button?
2. The thumbnails are nice but is there a way to name they there besides at the bottom of the picture?
Great photos and good luck in your venture.

Thank you and both are good points. I guess the buttons were a stock thing and saved time designing them but now the site is finished, I have time to design these and make a better effort at the main site logo.

I think my first thought for the thumbnails was to keep it clean and uncluttered but as with the buttons, I now have a bit of time to experiment with different layout options.

My main worry was navigation so it is a bit of a relief that it seems to work ok :)

Did that site Photobox generate the galleries automatically for you with thumbnails and all? How does that work? I'm going to be doing a site for my friend for his galleries and this looks like exactly what I want to do.

This Gallery I wrote the code for

http://www.takenfromthetop.com/landscapes_Scotland_g1.htm

And this one photobox do automatically. You upload your pictures and then apply for pro gallery statust which is free and you can customise it a little to match your own site.

Hope this helps but if you have any questions just let me know.

Just want a good weather weekend to do the 5d justice..... it seems to have the ability to pack in massive amounts of detail..... just want to get out in those mountains and play with it!!
