Hello everybody, I just have a quick question. I'm interested in selling a lens i purchased from an online retailer. Is it normal for me to give the receipt to the buyer?

Some buyers will ask if you have the original receipt. It helps establish that you actually own it (as opposed to it having been stolen), and may give some indication of age beyond the date code. Date code is the build date, but a lens could have seen considerable shelf time before being sold. But I dont know that you have any real reason to provide them with the receipt as it really does them no good.

I've bought and sold lots of lenses thru the years and have never been asked for one nor have I requested a receipt. Normally it's not expected. I suspect a lot of folks discard or lose them after a few years anyway.

As other's have said, it's not really normal, but plausible that someone would want proof as to how long the lens has been in service.
