CDS and I spent some time today near a protected nesting area for least terns and piping plovers.
These piping plovers are *small* and they blend very well. We never saw any until they moved, and if we looked away for a second we had a dickens of a time finding them again. They just blended into their surrounding as soon as they stood still.
As I said, these birds are small. These are about 30% crops.

I'm not entirely postive, but after studing Sibleys I believe that this is a first-year male.
