As mentioned, CDS and I spent some time today near a protected nesting site for least terns and piping plovers.
The least terns did NOT like CDS's 500mm lens. They were dive-bombing him for a while, coming within a couple feet at times.
To get some of the action I backed up a bit and focused on the end of the 500mm. I was using a 400mm L, f/5.6. Tha birds are pretty small, and as you can see they're almost in focus, so they weren't very far from that lens at all....

For some reason I barely bothered them, and they didn't mind my 400mm lens much at all...
