This building caught my eye as the storm front started to move in. It was about 500 yards away, and I had the 70-200 on the camera. Shot at 126mm to crop out the telephone & power lines, ISO 100, f6.3, 1/800. When I shot it, I didn't realize that the writing on the weather vane was actually readable, but as you can see from the full frame crop, it is quite clear.

The full size image, converted in Raw Essentials, is at http://www.supercharger.net/pictures/stuff/Moravian.jpg and is 5.6M. Feel free to edit as you would.

Wow, that's weird, just posted a thread about this lense. Question: The "halo" around the top of the building and the weather vein...is that from sharpaning or is that in the origional image???? It seems, well, a little much to me.
And just a side note...think your sensor could use some cleaning! lol. Sorry...

I didn't actually do any sharpening when I converted it in raw essentials; I think the halo effect is the result of reflected light and high humidity; the sun was full on the building, which was what caught my eye. It's in the original raw image, though not as clearly as I dropped the exposure compensation.5 in this image.

And I noticed the specks, too. Guess I'll have to read up on sensor cleaning :(

Yeah that halo sure is an odd thing.I thought the same as Rigrider at first

In fact the whole image has a kind of smooth 'plastic' effect similar to what the old D30 gave.
Lately we've been seeing alot of evidence on just how close the image quality of the sigma comes to the canon lens.Very nice

I'eve been playing a bit with the image to try to remove the halo effect (without major editing) and I'm more convinced that it has something to do with the reflected light. The effect goes from about 4 o'clock to 11 o'clock on the reflective ball on the weather vane, and it's only on the left side of the tower roof. That fits in whith the angle of the sun when the shot was taken.

I can make the effect go away if I reduce the contrast or lighten the image, but it begins to look very washed out, losing the color of the building.

The "Halo" was most likely caused by the "Fill light" setting in RSE...

A soon as I drop the exposure compensation, the halo appears more noticible. I did try to use the "fill light" setting and it definitely makes it worse,

the shot has a really strange quality (in a good way!) that I can't quite put my finger on - combination of the lighting & the colour - almost looks like it's done in acrylics, or a litho print!

Is it me or does that picture look weird? Something ain't right. Either it was post processed to the limit or something is wrong with my monitor. I am not impressed with the quality of this shot. Can you repost another one? The reason I ask is because I like many here are debating the Sigma 70-200 over the Canon F4.

Asmodeus ... how about posting the original shot unprocessed as a link so people can download, play and maybe repost their versions?

It could be a very nice, image quality wise at least, but there is somehting amiss at the moment. Love the coppered roof against the sky tho' :)

The 6.89 MB RAW file is now at http://www.supercharger.net/pictures/stuff/IMG_1026.CR2

One thing I just noticed is that RAW Essentials defaults to having the Add Sharpening checkbox selected. I hadn't noticed that before (just started using the software). Sharpening is set to zero in the Correct page, but would it be applied anyway? I thought the only change I was making was to the Exposure Compensation, but perhaps making that change forced other changes. Or could the change have been made when I cloned out the tree branch you'll see on the left side of the image in CS2?

Guess I should read the manuals ;)

Image looks overly sharpened with boosted contrast.

Can't seem to open your CR2 file. Anyone else having same problem?

Downloaded the file I uploaded and it opens for me.

I know I didn't intentionally sharpen the image. Does anyone know the answer to my question about RSE's behavior?
