Molas Lake, about 10,000 feet above sea level, is near Silverton, CO. The shot was taken early in the day with the kit lens, f 10, 1/4 second, CPL, ISO 100.

Stan, you are truly a master of composition. Did you wait until the ducks had swam into the picture?

Did you climb the 10000 feet? It was well worth it if you did - thanks for sharing.

Great Shot. And to answer for Stan there are many places in CO where the rocks are that red.

No, no, it's not all like that. There are some really ugly parts. Really! I'm serious.

Well, I'm enjoying everyone's comments. Certainly I appreciate the positive feedback.

Harold, I took some with and without the ducks, but decided I liked having the ducks in the scene. I suppose my thrifty nature wants to get as much as possible in each shot.

Theresa, as Kenny said, there is a lot of red rock in this area, whole mountains of it (shown in some earlier posts). Unfortunately, I don't know what type of rock it is.

Damian, I suppose you could say I climbed the 10,000 feet, but most of it was in a vehicle. I'm doing well to climb a few hundred feet on my own.

Bigun, you live in a pretty nice area, but the scenery in CO is spectacular. You should visit, however, before making life-altering decisions. They do have winter here.

Raj, you made a good observation. The left corner is overexposed because that's where the sun was at the time. Even with the polarizer, I couldn't avoid some degree of overexposure and still get the shot I wanted.

Angel_LCD and Reigh, thanks for your compliments. And, Reigh, yes we are having a wonderful trip. Almost too much to grasp all at once, but I'm trying.

Great colours !.
do you know what it is?
It looks like sandstone with a coating of iron-oxides.
