I shot these with a Canon 350D Rebel XT using the 18-55mm kit lens on full auto and then used Adobe Photo Shop and edited and cropped. I would love to be able to take better close-ups by using the mf but I'm a newbie and a bit overwhelmed. Any suggestions?

#1 would be a nice shot if it were sharp & the highlight in the background were removed. ;-) Better yet, LOOK at what's in the frame before you trip the shutter.
#2 is too bright + what I said about #1.
Interesting idea! Keep at it, it does get easier!

I took these from the front seat of a car looking into the back seat. Baby was in a infant car seat. I was holding the babies foot with my left hand and balancing the camera on the front seat back with my right hand while I took the picture. Same with the other picture. I'm not very literate with Adobe Photo Shop yet. I did sharpen #1 a bit. When I get better with Adobe, maybe I can blur the background a bit. Thanks for your comments. I posted "Busy Bee" in the Nature and Animals section today. If you get time, I'd appreciate your feedback on them too. Thanks again.

You might also consider converting them to black and white. I've been playing around with that and have gotten some good results.

I'lll check out your Busy Bee photo, too.

Okay here they are in B/W. Let me know what you think. I used Photo Shop to bleep out the background and also sharpened the photos and darkened the hand and gave it a bit more contrast.

Adjusting contrast would also give 'em some bite

Thanks for the comments. I really like them in B/W better than color. Pretty awesome once I figured out how to get rid of the background in the originals. I did try to give them a bit more contrast before I posted them, but I didn't like the results. I'll keep practicing. Two days in a row now I haven't snapped a picture...my camera is feeling neglected.

Oh my goodness! What a difference! I absolutely love the first one. I've been practicing with B/W conversions and am envious of your results. You've motivated me to get off the computer and take some more shots.

Koodos Liza! I'm glad I've inspired you. I was really pleased with the results myself. The B/W conversion definately gives them a more artsy feel. Once I'm more familiar with how to use my Adobe Photo Shop, I'm sure there will be no limits for me. I'm just going to have to practice a lot. Thanks again for the comments. You too, have inspired me.
