Is it just me or are there others out there?
I have almost given up checking the histogram after every snap when its bright and sunny. It is almost impossible to make out anything on the LCD

When I am shooting a difficult subject in broad daylight, I will need to check the histogram periodically. I swing the camera around so that the display is on the shady side of the camera, and then I hold one hand above the display to shade it further. Of course, some cameras have a brightness control for the display, so you might have to crank that up high. Also, you can see the histogram a lot better than looking for detail in the full image.

There are rubber LCD hoods you can buy which help, or you can put a toilet paper roll up against it and look through it.

Getting the loo roll out in a bird hide would go down really well I imagine. I might do it just for fun

Viewing the images on the LCD on very bright days is pointless, but the histogram is very easy to see. I never have an issue seeing the histogram. Its just a white shape on a blue background. You don't need to see any detail there.

Everyone chimps. I was at an event recently and some of the pros there checked their lcd display after every shot.
I've had issues with trying to see the image on the lcd in bright sunlight but I don't have any trouble seeing the histogram. It is much easier to work with than trying to tell if your shot is ok from the image itself.

I too have trouble seeing pics on the LCD, but not the histogram. Maybe it's just a matter of using it enough to know what to look for.
