that's a very nice effect ... the old lady providing the center of the image and the tranquillity that the surrounding (younger) people are missing.
Only thing that is a bit odd is the McDonalds style drinking cup ... some old lemonade glass might have been more appropriate. But that's nitpicking now.
I also like your avatar ... very 70ish :wink:

I am normally not a fan of extreme and obvious manipulation of an image and have only seen a few that I have liked - so I wondered how this would be received. It has been a mixed review on most forums I have posted it.
I was tempted to post the image without any effects but something in the way the subject stares at us, the viewer, struck a chord in me. It's a look I see, in different manifestations, as I take pictures of people - and others who do street photography may have similar experiences. So, delving into a bit of surrealistic juxtapositioning of in-focus/out-of-focus, I attempted to portray ("focus" on) a more expressionistic presentation of the image. I suppose it was worth the attempt...
