Hi All,

I'm quite new to all this stuff - know some of the technical theory but still getting to grips with some of the terminology. What do you guys mean when you talk about stopping back a lens. I saw it icw getting crisper pictures out of the kit lens. I am guessing it is reducing the f-stop? or is it the other way round?

Thanks

Nips

Reducing the aperture size (increasing aperture number) you get darker but sharper picture with deeper depth of field.

Welcome to the forum Nips!

Most lenses have an optimum aperture setting at which they are sharpest. For the cheaper consumer lenses this tends to be in the middle of the range... if you want sharp across all apertures (especially fully open) you have to pay....££££££
