An ominous Cooper's Hawk hoping to find some tasty snacks at our bird feeder yesterday morning. :)

Crafty little bastard was hanging out on the neighbor's deck, keeping an evil eye on the feeder, about 50 yards away.

Beautiful bird, though.

Thanks. Oddly enough, my wife shot it. She grabbed my camera, asked how to turn it on, and handheld the shot. I hope I don't lose my camera over this. :)

Don't know if it's beginner's luck, or the beginnings of real talent, but your wife took a couple of great shots. Thanks for sharing.

(I'm so compulsive I feel like Monk on the tv show, bu I can't stop worrying about that white spot. I'll clean it off if ya like.) ;)

Very nice :)
Definitely looks like it's thinking of it's next meal :)

It's hard to tell.. I'm only trying to judge based on an estimate of size in relation to the railing..
But it may be a SHarp Shinned Hawk?

You might be right about the type of bird. My wife told me what she thought it was--all I knew is that it was a bird, and definitley not a 747. :)

A sharp-shinned hawk weighs 5 ounces, on average.

A Cooper's hawk weighs 16 ounces, on average.

That's a big difference.

Yeah... I really don't get to see many of either .. but the Coopers I photographed recently looked like a bulldog! He dwarfed the pidgeon it was eating...

...this one looks about pidgeon sized to me? :)
