Hi all,
I just got my first dslr (350D) and when I picked it up i noticed something moving and making a noise inside the camera every time a tilt it from one side to another. Is that the mirror inside that is making the noise or is something not right?
Please advice,
Ben the concerned...

Most likely, it's the sensor that determines if you are using the camera in portrait or landscape mode.
Nothing to be concerned about.
Best regards,
Andy

If I give mine a little shake I can hear what I think is a hinge on the built in flash.

Yep it's the built in flash hinge. I played with a few 350D's when looking for my 20D and they all had the same rattling sound coming from the flash.

It scared me too until I found what it was...
Just pop up the flash, you see two metal arms.
Hold them gently with your fingers and tilt the camera again; the noise should be gone now.

Thats what it was on my 300D. For those of you that said its the tilt sensor and was so sure about it....how on earth did you conclude that?

Page 59 of the 300D manual states thus:
"When you change the camera's orientation between the horizontal and vertical, the camera orientation sensor will make a small sound. This is not a defect."
I broke protocol (being a guy and all) and read the manual. Please, forgive me. ;)

Just as long as you don't start reading maps and giving proper directions to strangers, we will let you live. ;)
Seriously folks, RTM will enlighten you. Just say yes.

Blasphemy!!!
Interesting!... once I held the hinges on the flash, my 300D was absolutely silent....no ticking flicking clicking or anything with movement/rotation. You either have really good hearing that was able to distinguish this sound...OR...I am slightly deaf :D mind you there is probably a page in the manual that states that too :D :D :D

When I change head orientation while reading titles at Barnes&Noble - I get crinkley noises in my neck. Is this related in anyway?

This is normal. Haven't you read your manual? It's right after the bit about how to understand women (which I skipped 'cos it was too complicated :p )

Thanks Tomsk - now what about that creaking sound when I squat down to get a low angle shot?
