I would like to hear your comments about this photo. It was taken at the Memphis zoo with available lighting. Not too crazy about the crop, but in order to put the focus on Kelsey, I had no other option. What do you think? I am also enclosing a smaller print of the original so that you can see what I am talking about.

i think she is an adorable lil girl but there seems to be a cast to the pic or maybe just a tad dark. Of course it could just be my crappy monitor! Love her curls!

I like the first one better. I am not a pro, but that’s what I think. I don’t think the picture is too busy to take anything away from your daughter and I think the saturation is nice (what camera and lens are you using?). The cropped picture is grainy.

cute kid, cute picture. I really like the soft lighting on her face, neck and hair. I think the close crop is too close because you loose the face of the dragon. I might have cropped it like this....

To get the girl in focus but at the edge of the image, you can press the shutter button halfway down while centered on her, then swing the camera round to reframe. On a 20D or similar, use custom function 4 set to 1, then you can focus by tapping *, let go, reframe and shoot. Alternatively, you can focus and then set the lens to manual focus, then recompose.

DavidEB cropped it the way I was thinking. She is such a cute little girl that my eye is drawn to her before the lion so that works well.

MackB I was using a Canon D rebel with quantaray 70-300 lens. The cropped picture lost something in the resizing process. It looked great in print. Thanks for the comments. I am constantly trying to improve and people are my favorite subjects. It just seems as though the little ones like my neice here are my most willing subjects. lol
