I got my new 1D2 on Thursday.(and a new diswasher)

It must be a fresh one as it has software version 1.2.3 After using a 1vHS for years most of the controls are quite familar to me. I think it focuses quicker than my 1v and weighs about the same, but since you are holding it up and looking at the rear LCDs it seems heavier at the end of the day.

Few changes to my camera bag- took out warming filter & 8 spare AA bateries.

Dust paranoia is new to me. I was reluctant to change lenses as often as I used to.
I no longer putz with my photo gear in my basement wood working shop.

I have never shot in RAW before so I have a lot to learn about post processing. I don't know what software to get. I assume I'll need PSCS2, some kind of RAW batch converion thing, and a noise program. In the meantime I' ll learn the software that came with the camera.

I shot about 90 images of a Pow Wow on Sunday and while they don't knock me out, the large jpegs don't look bad.(If you love colorful outfits go to a Pow Wow)

It seems that my computer will be taxed by post processing and now a need for more storage. Future upgrade? Monitor Calibration? More money- definately!

I am dissapointed in what I expected to be more reach with my longer lenses and I have yet to put my widest lens on the camera.

Oh yeah the Oozie thing is cool.

Expect a lot more questions in my posts.

Congrats on your new toy :) CS2 is great for RAW, until you get around to it use Rawshooter Essentials, it's free and some people like it better than CS2 (not me). Both programs do batch conversion. I use the NoiseNinja pro plugin for photoshop, it works great, and it can be automated in actions, which saves me a fair bit of time.

I just got mine yesterday (7/12). It's sure a big camera. I almost had to take the manual out of the wraper to figure out how the battery went in. :D The sound is ok, but I wasn't as surprised by it as some where, but then I have a EOS 3 I used before I went digital several years ago and it sounds almost the same at full speed. The buttons and controls are like my EOS 3 as well. I love that 100% view finder. Boy have I missed that since I went digital.

I had to go through the manual a few times, as well as the stuff that others posted in a thread about settings and CF and PF settings just to get it where I'm ready to start learning it. Once I use it for awhile I'll start tweaking the settings more in line with the way I shoot. One area that is going to take some getting use to is having to use two hands to change most everything on it. You have to hold a button down while turning a wheel, which I find awkward in some areas right now. But I know I'll get use to it in time with use.

It sure is a solid camera though and I can't wait to get it out this weekend for some action shots. At least the weather is suppose to be good.

Good luck with your camera, Tapeman.

I've been playing with one the last few days. Nice camera!

The best part is the large viewfinder! That alone has sold me on getting a full-size sensor.

For RAW processing, Capture One Pro is great.
