Wonder if he just uses it as an everyday camera or if he really attempts photography ;)

It has been posted before a couple of times. It is not his camera - he borrowed it from the official White House photographer.

of course it would be against the rules of the forum to comment on his day job....I wonder if Canon would think about using the photo in ads in Japan or Europe to hell sell cameras

They need cameras in hell?!! And they get them through Japan and Europe?!!
Seriously, I doubt if Canon would do that. They have too much to lose if someone high in the administration gets bent out of shape.
Can you say "tariffs"?

RoyMathers,
Look at the link to the Obama picture the OP cited. Look at OBama's left index finger.
I said his LEFT INDEX FINGER!!!!

I see that now, but the comment was posted under the photo of the White House photographer, so I assumed that it was that to which he was referring.

I think someone need to grab hold of him and show him good handholding technique - any volunteers?
Don't worry about the Secret Service - the bruises fade after a few weeks and the broken bones will eventually heal!

There are too many anti-Obama websites, forums, and blogs for them to worry about anything that's been said here.

what lens is that? it looks red ring, but small/cheap.
and what is that whitish thing on the bottom of the lens? a rental maybe? is he borrowing someone's camera to shoot a shot of them for themselves? there has to be more to this.

That was my first thought -- but I like his pin! :D
(BTW, nice to know that the official WH photographer uses Canon. :))

Only the intelligent ones, along with intelligent Republicans, Libertarians, et al.
Frankly, I doubt that anyone at all voted for Obama because of his choice in cameras, or against him because of his lack of skill with them.

He probably borrowed it from White house photographer, Pete Souza (http://www.nppa.org/news_and_events/news/2009/01/souza.html)(no relation) who uses a 5D although he may have upgraded to a 5D2 by now.

well....to the budget cuts credit...we did see the 5d UNGRIPPED.
also, WTF is that government property for? so you are telling me this photographer doesn't have his own equipment? great job that is....."hey guy (obama), please hire me...i am a great photographer...i will show you, just let me order equipment on your dime (oh and it's your property so don't worry), and i will show you i can take some marvelous pictures).
what a crock. either the photog has his own equipment and his salary, or some other funds pays for any extra stuff, or i dont know what. why is he "renting" equipment (not the best mind you) from the government??
Jon
29th of March 2010 (Mon), 13:03
It's not at all uncommon for journalists (which Souza already was when he was hired on) to use their employers' equipment. Among other things, it means the office (and the White House, like most government agencies anywhere, or news agencies, has more than one photographer) can maintain a pool of the less-commonly-used equipment and issue it when needed. It also makes it more explicit that the copyright belongs to the office, not to the photographer, under "work for hire" conditions. He isn't "renting" equipment. He is supplied with the tools required to do his government job the same as an office worker (government or commercial) will be supplied with a computer, cell phone, or Blackberry, or law enforcement officials will be issued firearms.

Ask away but I think you will need to get a cleaning kit for the lens. Or is this the one time a UV filter would actually be of use?:lol::lol:
