I like 1 & 3 but probably 1 the best. 3 just has the explorer in me wanting to check out the house. ;)

Very nice, and interesting shots. The country road looks like many here in Colorado, except the trees out here are aspens.

Thanks all for the comments, Considering that it was very overcast and rainy and I had to shoot at ISO 800, I was suprised they came out as well as they did. Weather hasn't been our friend here in New England this summer.

they are all lovely Sandy.
love the first shot of the roadway

what are the two 'rockets' for in # 2 picture ?
is it a chicken (eggs) farm ?
I only say because relations of mine have something the same beside their chicken farm
lovely old rickety barn in the other shot
what does 'sugar house' mean?

Thank you so much Marie, Those "Rockets" are grain silos. used to store feed for the livestock through winter. Used to be a big dairy farm, but I don't think they have the dairy cows anymore. The term 'sugar house' refers to the building that is used to make maple syrup, they take the sap from the sugar maple trees and boil it down until it is a very sweet liquid. it's a very big product of Vermont. Sugar house comes from what they do to the sap called sugar in off.

Marie; I have no Idea where the spotty dog went, probably got sick from drinking to much sweet maple syrup.  The thing you see on the roof is not the chimney, It's the steam coming off of the vaporators while they are boiling down the sap, It gets very very sticky if you can't vent it to the outside. The do use wood to cook the sap on. I'm sure Canada makes a lot of syrup also along with most of the New England states. Basiclly anywhere there is a good stand of the Sugar Maple Tree.

I'm sure some of the smoke went up there, also had seperate smoke pipes for the wood stoves as you can see in the one on this link.

thanks Sandy
saw the other pipe here
( just now, late answering):o

I wondered what the set up was.

must have been warm in there in Summer
maybe they only worked in the colder months
after the syrup was 'gathered'

the pipe is not in the first shot
someone must have stolen it

the pipe idea may have came later
I was reading that last url you posted and seemly the later hut (belonging to the family) was made of wood
and some concrete around

I love the first one! And I can empathize about the overcast skies. It has been that way here for a week. Not good when one wants to take outdoor shots.

Thanks Liza, if it's not overcast it's so hot and humid you don't want to go outside. Marie the usually are all done making syrup by May. the tap the trees in Feb. and March when the sap starts to flow, and yes it can get pretty hot (and sticky) inside.
