I have a SanDisk ImageMate USB 2.0 Reader/Writer. I installed it and when I hook everything up and connect it to my USB port sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have Windows XP and when the card reader is hooked up it either works perfectly or a message saying "device not recognized" pops up. Do I have a faulty card reader or is the problem with my computer?
Thanks.
Alex

I am not sure. I will try each port and see if one works. Thanks for the help cjsa.

Thanks for your suggestion gasrocks.
However, the card reader only came with one cable.

I'm not sure about you but I have had the same problem and I'mthinkng that it has something to do with my new motherboard. I have usb ports that take turns working(or not as the case may be), run at 1.1 instead of 2.0, or not let me run my scanner. This stuff is all random as to when it happens. My front access usb ports(2) will sometimes run my accessories and the next minute not recognise them.I thought I was the only one with problems like these. I would sure like any advice also.
Thanks

I have the same problem with the same reader but feel its the usb system in XP thats to blame. if i take it out of one usb2 socket and put it in another XP picks it up ok.
saying this most of the time it works fine.

Have same reader and has worked perfectly in 3 different computers with different cables and on both XP home and XP Pro. I would suggest you reader is at fault!
