Some more pics from when CDS and I went shooting the other day...

Luckily I get to post these before he posts his. He has a way with Terns and will likely put these to shame.

All but the last are about 50% crops, while the last is more like 25%. These birds are much smaller than I had ever thought. Tracking them in flight is usually fairly difficult since they twist and spin like crazy. Luckily these ones weren't feeding so it made my life a bit easier.

Besides, they were busy dive-bombing CDS's 500mm lens....

Nice captures. What were the iso and aperture settings?

Good shots! Haha, I have a couple that look quite a bit like the bottom one. Down in Cape May, there were tons of them on the protected beaches and they were literally coming within a foot or two from my head, protecting their nesting areas. Awesome little terns. I saw them chasing away birds four times their size. Your flight shots are nice, they are tough to get I know that!

ISO 200 and f/5.6 for all. That's my 400-prime-birds-in-flight-on-a-sunny-day setting. That gave me between 1/1600 and 1/2000 for the flight shots, and somehow I got 1/4000 on the ground shot.

Sweeeet!

As allways you leave me many threads behind..
I don't think I'll be able to look at mine before the weekend.

These are great.... perfect sky in them too!

I've been trying to process some of mine too from the Salton See, but it irks me that these birds never show a catchlight.
