As the title say, shortest collapsed (under 15") monopod that'll be good to close to 6', extended. Is there anything like this out there?
TIA

Under 15" collapsed, and extending to at least 5'8", assuming worst case of the 40D being ungripped? That'd need to be at least 6 sections, so you'd want something fairly big around to get a bottom section of a reasonable diameter to not flex much. Frankly, I'd look for either a longer collapsed length or a lower max. length. My Gitzo 3551 is 5 sections, just over 21" collapsed and extends to a bit over 6'. The only Gitzo that's under 15" collapsed only extends to 56", and that's with 6 segments (2561). I'd say that's pretty well representative of what you can expect to find from any sturdy monopod.

This is what I keep in my bag at all times. Its so small, its not a problem.

2 great resonses.

Too large? I have a completely different suggestion. I have a Leica tabletop tripod and a Leica ball head--about 35 years!

You can use the combination as a chest pod and support the dslr right infront of your face.

Size is smaller; very light weight. Very convenient to use--except it takes a bit of time to go from portrait to landscape mode (Best with the camera in landscape mode).

One concern. The folded tripod with ballhead attached looks a little like a pistol with a silencer on in instruments at airport security.

Has worked well for me for years.
