So the newborn that I was going to do my first practice session with was born yesterday! I've heard that age 10 days and younger are best for getting them to go to sleep and being more flexible. Due to their schedule and mine it looks like he will be 14 days old. Is this going to make much difference on the sleepiness and the flexabilty to get the newborn poses?

I could try to set something up for when he is 4 days old but I wanted to try to set up my stuff and practice a bit before hand. Plus not sure if that is too young.

I think for first few (3-4) weeks they sleeping most of the time. In the begining the skin doesn't look that good and you got that cord sticking out of the belly button. At least that's my experience when my son was born.

Well according to the American clothing system, anything under 3 months... :p

My general policy (which was put in place after having a two-weeker that was SO hard) is 10 days or younger, which seems to work well for me. However, due to illness (mine) and scheduling conflicts, my last newborn was 18 days old (it did help she was only 5lbs). She tied with my overall easiest newborn (who was 2.5 days old...fresh out of the hospital) so I've decided it has more to do with the baby's personality than age, to an extent. Some will be more alert/sleepy, happy/fussy, bendy/not bendy than others and there's not much to be done about it.

Most newborns within the first month are sleeping on and off all day. Its a matter of having time and patience (usually not going to take longer than 2hrs) if your trying to get a sleeping photo. Like said before though, the skin is still flakey and not the best for the first 10days. Although, its a fine line between getting the best skin and newborn look. They change so fast at that age, 2 days can be an entirely new set of facial expressions.

i prefer newborns under 9 days.
after that they aren't as... curled up.
they've lost their cord.
the acne starts and they don't seem to sleep as deep or as long.

I agree with the best age being under 2 weeks. After that, they do not 'curl' as well, the baby acne can kick in and they don't sleep quite as much. That's not to say you can't have a good experience beyond that, though. :)
