I am trying to work on my skills shooting various sports around town. Here are some pics from a local high school meet this past week. All were taken with a 70-200L non IS lens (new lens for me). I welcome C&C - please let me know what you think.

Overall I was generally happy witht the results. I had the most difficult time with hurdles capturing sharp focus. You can see all the photos on my smugmg account below.

Thanks,

Good exposures on the backlit photos (1,7,8). Bump up the contrast a bit in post and they will look even better.

The shots down the straight with the cross lighting are good given the conditions. My suggestion would be to move to one side or the other and try to minimize the half sun half shadow lighting and expose accordingly. I think the angle you picked is a good track angle but the lighting made it a tough choice on this given day.

Kevin, thanks for the input. Harsh sunlight that day, I did not see the contrast in the straight on shots so much until they were on my computer. Tried to decrease the contrast in PP, but did not want to over process. I will try to be more aware in the future and shoot from a different angle.

I agree with Big K(usually do). Might want to try shooting from a lower position(kneeling or sitting and use a monopod. Overall, nice shots...you got a good start here!
