I made the trip down to Oulton Park with GSH for the first car meeting of the season to be held there this year. Cracking day, cracking circuit, great racing - don't really need to say anything else!

Brilliant! I chose to get a 100-400 a few days ago... it looks sharp from what i can gather but if its not up to scratch ill be getting a prime... you cannot argue the sharpness of your photos!

*Thumbs Up*

Enjoy your new lens! I went for the prime as I already have up to 300mm covered. I also got a very good deal on the lens ;)

Mmmmm pizza :D

A cracking selection from a very good day...they certainly set a high standard for the rest of the season. Glad to see the 400's a keeper too Simon. I may just treat myself to one before too long :)

Simon,

Really fantastic images and tack sharp. Did you use a polarizing filter in these? The windshields and helmet visors appear very clear in your photos, unlike mine that seem to always have a glare regardless of, time of day or direction of the sun.

Once again great shots!!!

Just hope I haven't peaked too soon LOL.

The 400mm f5.6L was a revelation. Really pleased with what it produced!

Nope, no polariser. Two reasons for this. Firstly, they cut down a big amount of light hitting the cameras AF sensors reducing AF speed and tracking accuracy. Secondly, most race cars run with Perspex instead of glass for windscreens. A CP gives wierd rainbow type effects with Perspex that look awful.

All it took to achieve the results in the photographs was a bit of pre planning, so I was in the right place relevant to the sun position as often as I could be.

Cheers,

Simon.

The light was perfect for a (too) short, brief time.

Glad you like them!

Didn't spot either of you on Saturday, although I was a bit on the busy side. The 7D seems to have become a weapon of choice. After charging batteries only had an hour to play before using it in anger. Pleased so far.

Got F3/GT this weekend but the weather does not look good.

Hello stranger!

Think we spotted you a couple of times, but you were always a fair distance away from us.

The 7D is a very nice bit of kit indeed - I've found it to be at least as good as my mk II for motorsport.

I'm giving the F3 / GT meeting a miss. I could only get down on Easter Saturday, and there's no GT racing on that day or any running at all of the VW lot. I'm do not like the single seaters, so it's just too far to go for what I'd like to see. Instead, I'm heading down to Cadwell Park to see primarilly the Austin Healey series, but the rest of the race card looks reasonable as well.

Don't think our weather will be much better mind you!

Really good set Simon
Colours are spot on & all nice & sharp but with a slow enough shutter speed to show movement too!

Thanks Pete. Shutter speed for these was between 1/200 to 1/320s to ensure there was wheel and background blur.
